Just because we have taken animals out of nature and labeled them with a word we create, "domestic," does not undo their genetic structure, their design. The domestic context of pets is but a moment as compared to their eons of wild history.
Modern pet life runs contrary to the wild canine/feline life in nearly every respect. It is no wonder domestic animal populations are stricken with so much sickness and disease as they grow into their middle and later years. Nature will simply not be deceived or cheated.
Striving for the best pet food is important. But as much as it is possible to do so, also respect nature by recreating a natural existence for your pets.

Thought for the day: "Animals are such agreeable friends - they ask no questions, they pass no criticisms." – George Elliot
Word for the day: epigenetic - adjective: 1. of, relating to, or produced by the chain of developmental processes in epigenesis that lead from genotype to phenotype after the initial action of the genes 2. relating to, being, or involving changes in gene function that do not involve changes in DNA sequence, such as the ability of food to affect genetic expression for generations / Research is also being undertaken to understand how imprinted genes are regulated and the role of epigenetic modifications in this process. / The fact that the environment and food can epigenetically affect offspring emphasizes the importance of self care. / Overall, perhaps half of all cancers are due to epigenetics, rather than mutations.
