EVOLUTION

Let's talk philosophy for a moment.

At first thought, who would believe that the concept of evolution could affect how pet foods are made? But it does, and dramatically so... and not for the good.

To understand why and how, we must recognize that how people think about the world affects how they act. Evolution is a way of thinking about the world. In essence it argues that life spontaneously arose out of inorganic matter and transformed over time into pets and people. It supposedly did so because it was obeying natural laws. In other words, life is no more special than a rock or wave in the ocean. Creatures are supposedly just a moving mound of atoms.

I have spent decades researching this subject and have written two books on it. One is called The Creation-Evolution Controversy, the other, Solving The Big Questions As If Thinking Matters. In these I demonstrate - without resorting to religion - that the concept of atoms to man evolution is both irrational and unscientific. (For you evolutionists who consider me illiterate for this argument, please read the second book above and tell me where it is incorrect.)

For our purposes here, I would like you to understand how belief in evolution impacts nutrition and health. If we are nothing more than a mixture of atoms, then we are nothing more than ____% carbon, ____% hydrogen,______% nitrogen, and so on. We are, in essence, like the nutrient analysis on a pet food or cereal package.

This materialistic idea of life is what leads to failed modern medicine where the body is treated as just an assemblage of parts and pieces that can be deleted and replaced at will. It leads to doctors chasing disease by managing lab numbers, and people consuming drugs to hide symptoms by manipulating the body's chemistry. Why not, if the body is mere chemistry, manipulate it with chemistry? If something goes wrong, just fix it with more chemistry.

The materialistic evolutionary philosophy leads to disassembling natural food into food fractions, synthesizing ingredients, using artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, and so on. Once the percentages are all in order it leads to the claim of "complete and balanced." After all, if pets and people are just percentages, then their food must be too.

On the other hand, if we believe that life and all of existence is very special - which all the evidence indicates it truly is - then we treat it with respect and pay attention to its natural order. Keep in mind that scientists have still not been able to create even the most simple of living organisms. Nor have they been able to cause the transformation of one kind of organism (syngameon) into another. That, in spite of all their brain power and hundreds of years of trying. But eons ago, atoms just mixing together on their own supposedly did such a thing

We live best when we face reality and live in tune with it. The reality is that life is a trillion times more complex and mysterious than we even can imagine. If we respect it and the natural order accordingly, we have the best chance of health and happiness.

Thought for the day: "The unquestioned acceptance of the given leads to the false choice between two preformed conclusions: evolution and religion. This narrowed view of reality leaves out a third alternative, the open minded pursuit of the facts, wherever they may lead".

Word of the day: hydrogenation/partial hydrogenation - verb: a process through which hydrogen is forced into vegetable oils to saturate or partially saturate their double bonds. This changes the fluidity of the oil and creates a semi-solid or solid texture in the finished product. Although hydrogenation helps prevent oxidation - which occurs at the double bonds - it also ruins the nutritional value of the oil since the double bonds (e.g., omega-3, -6, -9) are critical in various biochemical processes. They are so critical, that double bonded fatty acids are essential, meaning they are a matter of life and death. Additionally, hydrogenated oils have a variety of toxicities. As usual, meddling with nature is a bad idea.
