So we start with desire - what we want to believe - then go out to the world of facts to find those that fit our preconceptions. Then, since we can always find a fact somewhere to support any cockamamie idea whatsoever, we can declare our special little belief the truth.
For example. There are those who want to believe in a flat Earth. Yes, right today there are those who believe this and they can muster facts to support it. For one, anyone can look out over the land and see that the Earth is flat. The Flat Earth Society believes the Earth is a disc 2,500 miles in diameter. The sun and moon are 37 miles across and 3,000 miles high. The stars are 100 miles above that. The oceans are kept from falling off the Earth by a wall of ice 150 feet high. Gravity is created by the Earth disc moving up through space and thus pressing objects against it.
Flat Earth believers argue that the Earth could not be a ball because that would mean only the very top of it would be inhabitable. People living on the sides or bottom of a sphere would, of course, slip off the planet. Such things as the lunar landings are declared a hoax created by the government and Hollywood.
Similarly is the idea that a processed food is 100% complete and therefore the best pet food. People looking for assurance and convenience, regulatory agencies, nutritionists, and manufacturers WANT to believe it. Although it is nonsense, incomplete "facts" - like digestibility studies, AAFCO feeding trials, NRC analytical percentages - can be found to support it.
Beliefs have consequences. In this case it is lost pet health.
Video: Flat Earth
Listen to this video to see the real motive why some believe in a Flat Earth. Notice how that DESIRE to believe takes precedence over reason and facts.
Thought for the day: "The most affectionate creature in the world is a wet dog." – Ambrose Bierce
Word for the day: microbial - noun: referring to microorganisms, especially viruses and bacteria. Some are pathogenic, in that they can cause disease, but some bacteria are essential to health as they are found on the skin, mucous membranes, and in the digestive tract.
