HEALTH BY INTERNET

The Internet has the potential for creating more good than any other human invention.

The ability of anyone to instantly communicate worldwide permits social contact and education like never before. People can join with others who share common interests, find a mate, or even start a revolution. The possibilities are endless and the power structure of the whole world is being shaken by this.

Of even more importance than social networking is the limitless information the web provides. Without opening a book or having to visit a library, anyone anywhere can instantly access whatever information they desire. Granted, misinformation abounds too, but that simply calls for critical thinking, not just stroking preformed ideas or desires.

Given that health is really about information, the Internet can become your best doctor. Any symptom or disease can be tracked down. Conventional treatments can be explored for their positives and negatives. Self care and holistic treatment options can be learned as well.

For anyone today to simply accede to one medical opinion is inexcusable. To not learn independently about self care (including that for your dog or car), is likewise inexcusable. Never before have people been given more opportunity to be masters of their own health destiny.

Nutrition is a cornerstone of health, making finding the pest pet food critical. Unfortunately, the medical and pharmaceutical industries do not see it that way. Neither do regulatory agencies. As a result, it is becoming increasingly difficult for manufacturers to communicate the health merits of their products. The argument is that if something (like an apple) is claimed to affect health, it is a drug and must go through hundred million dollar FDA studies.

The Internet permits you, the consumer, to circumvent such nonsense. There is still freedom of speech and so long as someone is not trying to sell something, they can talk all they want about health. Thus you can go on line and plug in: NATURAL TREATMENT OF __________ (disease or condition), or HEALTH BENEFITS OF ____________ (ingredient or product in question). There you will find abundant information, both pros and cons.

Do this. Don't rely on official opinion, urban legends or other hearsay for health or finding the best pet food. Use the Internet to become your own savvy expert and reap the health bounty possible from doing so.

Thought for the day: "A man should never be ashamed to own he has been in the wrong, which is but saying, in other words, that he is wiser today than he was yesterday." – Alexander Pope (1688-1744)

Word of the day: electrolytes - noun: electrically charged minerals (ions) assist in giving the body a proper fluid balance and permit healthy biochemical interactions. Examples include sodium, chloride, potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphate. These minerals are lost daily in sweat, urine and feces. The best way to replace them is with a natural diet and intelligent supplements. Notice that sodium and chloride (salt) head the list. This is why whole, real salt, rich in trace minerals and unrefined, is healthful and was even used at one time as a currency, like gold.
