RELY ON EXPERTS TO YOUR PERIL

It's easy to fall into the trap of doing what the experts say. No individual can know everything. So we rely on the refrigerator repairman, accountant, sales clerk, lawyer, FDA, doctor, dentist, veterinarian, food regulators, USDA, nutritionists, fitness trainer, and so on.

The problem is, once we surrender to an expert we risk surrendering to the selfish interests of that person. Experts make a living from being experts and so it is to their advantage to make you dependent on them.

What's more, there is the risk that the expert is not really an expert in the field they are claiming to be expert in. Or, perhaps whatever training they have is not really correct.

Anyone who has lived long enough has experienced the danger of becoming dependent and surrendering to experts. With time we learn that there is no escaping the duty to use our own minds and common sense to be as self-reliant as possible if we want a good outcome for ourselves and loved ones.

The public commonly surrenders to experts in medicine and nutrition. These fields seem complicated and over the average person's head. But these are the areas that most directly and significantly affect our well being and that of dogs and cats. Thus, there is not much room for error.

With that said, please spend some time thinking about the graphic below. Most of us have learned to be critical of a doctor's advice when it goes against our own common sense. In the case of nutrition, we would never feed our children some so-called complete and balanced food for every meal, no matter what our doctor advised.

But then these same people will go to a veterinarian and apply a double standard by following his/her advice to feed one complete and balanced food at every meal.

That's crazy. But people by the tens of millions do it every day and think they are achieving the best pet food. Their pet's health is the price that will be paid.
