GRAINS VERSUS OTHER STARCHES

Despite the negativity surrounding corn and other grains brought on by "no" marketing slogans, grains are actually nutritionally superior to other starch sources used in pet foods.

There is nothing uniquely harmful about corn and grains. Their demonization is purely a marketing ploy used by some manufacturers to try to set their ordinary products apart: "Our foods have no corn, no grains, so buy our foods."

Some cite allergies and sensitivities as a reason to avoid corn, grains, and legumes such as soy. But grains and legumes are not the cause. Any ingredient can incite these problems if it is fed relentlessly at every meal. People deceived into thinking that a food with no corn or grains is the answer to their pet's health are doomed to failure. Whatever food they feed, if it is fed at every meal, is likely to eventually cause problems - such as the allergies and sensitivities they are trying to avoid.

Rotation and variety achieve the best pet food and health, not "no this or that" marketing slogans.

Please take a moment to examine the chart below that compares the nutritional value of various starch sources. Note that corn, wheat, and other grains are quite superior nutritionally to other starchy ingredients such as potatoes, white rice, and tapioca.
